The process, step by step
- Apply to the state medical council of the hosting state — not your association’s home state. A Bengaluru conference goes through the Karnataka Medical Council regardless of where the society is registered.
- Submit the scientific programme — session-by-session timings, faculty names and qualifications, and hours of instruction. Councils award credits against actual teaching hours.
- Pay the prescribed fee and wait — processing runs weeks to a few months depending on the state. Apply at least 3–4 months before the conference; late applications are the single most common accreditation failure.
- Capture attendance — barcode scans or signed registers per session. Councils can and do ask for attendance evidence before certificates are honoured.
- Issue certificates with the accreditation number — stating the credit hours and council reference.
Why it matters commercially
- Delegates: several state councils require ~30 credit hours per five-year registration renewal cycle — accredited conferences fill seats faster and justify higher registration fees.

Common delays
Incomplete faculty details, programmes submitted before they’re frozen (councils dislike revisions), applying to the wrong state, and underestimating processing time around council holidays.
